Responsible Petroleum Management: 3 weeks course
The course had to be postponed to a date to be announced, due to the Corona COVID-19 virus pandemic. Our intent is to set a new date once the virus situation has normalised, and to re-admit the same participants as had been admitted for the course in March.
The 'Oil for Development' programme (OfD) and Petrad offer a course in Responsible Petroleum Management. Priority to participate will be given to civil servants from countries that particiate in the OfD programme. The course will be held in Stavanger, Norway, during March 16th - April 3rd, 2020, and will be fully funded for admitted applicants who are civil servants from OfD countries. It is intended as an annual event thereafter, with the next course planned for March 8th - 26th, 2021.
The course provides a broad review of the challenges and methods of managing petroleum resources on behalf of a nation. The main course objective is for participants to strengthen their capabilities for contributing to the management of petroleum resources in the long-term interest of their nations, and with due consideration to all impacts of petroleum operations on society and the environment. The course is based on Norwegian experiences and global insights. Presentations will be given by representatives of Norwegian public agencies with responsibilites for the petroleum sector, and by experts from industry and academia. There will be group practices where participants work together solving problems in an imaginary country.
Participants at the 3 weeks course are expected to have prior knowledge of the main work processes in the petroleum industry (the value chain). For participants which are lacking in this respect but are otherwise qualified, we offer an introductory course in the week prior to the main course, starting March 10th.
Participants at the 3 weeks course are also expected to complete a significant amount of readings and other preparations, and to report on these preparations before arriving at the course. The reading and other materials will be made avilable electronically. Estimated duration of preparations is up to 40 hours. If you will be unable to undertake these preparations for the 2020 course, we request that you do not apply for this course, but you can express an interest in the 2021 course (see below). You will then receive the reading materials early.
